Saturday afternoon I was bound and determined that I was going to have her. I called my mom and had her come up and watch William so Vince and I could go to Terre Haute and walk around the mall. I knew that if I walked enough that I would start having contractions close enough together that the doctor would keep me. And I didn't want to be too far away from the hospital because they've been stopping every time I stop walking.
We left for Terre Haute at 1pm and I was already having contraction 6 minutes apart. I wasn't to sure if they were 'real' contractions or not because they didn't hurt at all. The entire time I had been having contractions (for the past 2 weeks or more) they didn't hurt.
We walked around the mall until 2:30 pm. By that time, my contractions were 2-5 minutes apart, but still didn't hurt. I called Dr. LaLouche and let him know what was going on and he had me come on in to the hospital. Seems this weekend was a busy one for him. They delivered 8 babies on Friday!
His original plan was to induce me Saturday, but because of the number of women already in labor, he couldn't schedule me. He did tell me that if I made to the hospital, with contractions of course, that he wouldn't send me home. We got there about 3pm. They hooked up my IV and started pitocin and the antibiotic for the Group B Strep virus. I actually tested negative for it this time, but since I was positive for it with William, he wanted to treat me anyway just to be safe.
I could feel the contractions getting stronger and closer together, but they still didn't hurt. At 5:00 my water broke. I didn't feel my water break with William so I wasn't too sure at first that it had broke. It just felt like my stomach 'popped'.
After my water broke, my contractions finally started to hurt. And they were about a minute or so apart. When they asked if I wanted an epidural, I said, "Of Course!" At 6:01pm, the epidural was doing it stuff and I was feeling no pain. What was nice was that I could still move my legs.
The nurse came in and checked on me about every 30 minutes. The epidural made me really cold this time too. I had them bring me a blanket that had been warmed up. Boy it felt nice! She was a little concerned though because I felt hot to the touch, but I didn't have a temperature.
It was around 9:15 when she came in to check how far I was dilated and she could tell by looking at the fetal monitor that I was ready to deliver. I asked her how she could tell and she told me that the baby's heart rate changes when it is time. So she had me to start pushing. I pushed once for her and didn't push much. She told me not even to laugh because she was right there! And she went and got Dr. LaLouche. I pushed twice for him and Grace was delivered. It was nice to be in labor only 8 hours instead of 14.
Her 2 apgar's were both 9. She weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. Her head circumference and chest circumference were both 32.5 centimeters.
Big Brother really loves his new baby sister too. He's very protective of her and doesn't like for people to look at her. He will cover her up.
