Wednesday Night:
I drove straight to Leiber from work. When I pulled up to our site, Vince had just gotten there and was getting ready to back in. We got the camper set up and I made hot dogs for the kids and soup for us. After we ate, William had Vince look at his loose tooth. I gave Vince a paper towel and he pulled it out. William didn't even feel it. It had to have been hanging by a thread. Vince went & got a shower while I got the kids to bed. Not long after we got laid down, I heard footsteps coming up to the door. It was a park officer bringing us our camping passes to hang in our vehicles. He put them under out window wipers. I had just gotten the kids to bed and I wasn't about to wake them by turning on the lights and opening the door. It rained most of the night. Vince found his pass when he was almost to I-70.
Thursday.
Grace woke up at 1:30. She had wet the bed. Note to self: remember no drinks after 8pm!) The kids woke up around 7:15. I told them to go back to sleep; it wasn't time to get up yet. We did get up at 8:20. I made chocolate chip pancakes and then the kids rode their bikes up to the shower house. Grace fell off her bike trying to get back on it. She is definitely NOT graceful! lol! Vince got rained out. My mom met him at Burger King in Brazil with William's Singulair and their vitamins and a few other things we forgot. When he got back to the camper, we went for a bike ride. Well, Vince & I walked. His bike has a flat tire that we will have to get fixed. He aired it up and when he went to ride it, it was flat again. After the walk/bike ride, we loaded up and drove down to the lake. When we were here this summer, the lake was flooded and we could only seen about 3 feet of the top of the shelter house that is on the beach. We saw a Crane standing in the water by the fishing pier....and I didn't have my camera with me! We saw another one at one of the docks that took off and flew across the lake. Grace fell asleep not long after we headed out. We drove down to Cataract Lake. We didn't get to do a whole lot there since Grace was asleep. I wasn't about to wake her up. She's caught a slight cold and is a little grouchy.
On the way back from the lake, we stopped by the Cataract General Store. I SO wish I had gotten a picture of this place. I thought it was so neat. It was established around 1860. It has the 4" wide wooden planks for flooring, the pot bellied stove for heat. It was just cool in my book. They have a lot of the antique stuff still there too. There was a cabinet that had a bunch of old papers, eyeglasses, etc in it. If the kids hadn't been with me, I could have looked around for hours, BUT the slightest jump make the racks shake and that just scared me! lol! Wouldn't want to have to pay for the stuff falling down. Then we headed back to the camper. Grace didn't wake up until we were almost back to the Park. Vince got a fire going and fixed hot dogs & hamburgers while I fixed a can of corn and kept the kids entertained. After we ate, Vince & I roasted marshmallows. The kids stayed in & Vince &I sat by the fire for at least an hour just talking. We haven't got to do that in quite a while! The kids wouldn't stay off the walkie-talkies so we went in and put them to bed and headed to bed ourselves.
Friday:
8:16am. It's raining. It has rained almost all night. We were in bed before 8:30. So we should be plenty rested! We had
cinnamon toast for breakfast. Grace also had 1/2 of a poptart. After breakfast, we headed to the house. I needed movies to
help keep them occupied while we are stuck inside due to the rain. I also had to go to Linton to deposit Vince's check.
Vince called me not long after I got on I-70. He had gotten rained out...again. He had me come back & get him. Only
problem...the only place to turn around was the BRAZIL EXIT! I had to drive 19 miles to the exit & 19 miles back to the
park exit. Saturday:
We slept in until almost 9. We had biscuits & gravy for breakfast and then we headed out. Saturday turned out to be a
really nice day. The sun was shining. It wasn't raining. And we got to do all we wanted to. I remembered to bring my
camera this time! We went on the Covered Bridge Natural Trail. It was just a little trail there at Leiber. Then we drove by
the lake to see if we could see the cranes again. No dice. Then we headed to Cataract Falls. We stopped by the Cataract
General Store again to grab something to drink. The rain we had made the Falls more....robust. The pictures I got were
really good. We went to the upper falls first, then let the kids play at the playground. Then we headed to the lower falls
and the little sister falls. Vince climbed down in the little sister falls and took some pictures. Right about here, my
camera's battery started to die. I was pretty ticked off about that. Vince said it was the plug in that we use at the
house. We use the one that is on the island and it is not working. Luckily, it hasn't fried my cell phone battery, but I do
think that is what is wrong with Vince's cell phone battery. After getting back from Cataract, the kids watched Minnesota
Cuke while we ate lunch. After it was over, the kids &I went for a bike ride/walk while Vince took a nap. I got bit by a
dog on this walk. A little yorkie started chasing William. After helping catch him, I held my hand up to him to show him
that I wasn't a threat and he bit me. lol! It left a little mark, but you really have to be looking to see it.
When we got back (about 20 minutes later) William & I played Children's Bible Trivia & a round of SkipBo while Grace
watched Pooh's Heffalump Halloween again. Then I drew faces on our pumpkins that we got from Sturgeon's Barn for Vince to
help the kids carve. When Vince got up from his nap, I went and got a shower. I felt like a new person when I came out of
there! lol! Vince & the kids carved their pumpkins. When I got back, I carved mine. We then went for another bike
ride/walk. Vince was the only one walking this time. I rode my bike and raced William around our little 'cul de sac' 3
times. That was a lot of fun. Grace did really well riding her bike. I've been really impressed with how she will stay on
it and at least try to keep up. When we got back from the ride/walk, Vince & I sat outside while the kids watch Pooh's
Heffalump Halloween AGAIN! Vince then ran up to the Marathon station for pop and cottage cheese. While he was gone, I
updated this journal and thawed the hamburger for dinner. After dinner, we went for another walk. Then I bathed the kids.
Vince roasted marshmallows and he put butter & cinnamon/sugar on the pumpkin seeds and roasted those as well. He went &
took a shower while I read Dora's Costume Party to the kids. William read 1/2 of his book The Dinosaur and I finished it.
Then we said our bedtime prayers and went to bed. We are headed home sometime tomorrow.
Sunday:
We got up around 8. We had chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and then we went for a walk while the kids rode their
bikes. Grace kept saying her brain hurt. She really meant she was cold. It was very brisk out. then we went back to the
camper to pack up. By 11, we were waiting in line at the dumping station.
Overall, even with the rain, we had a good time. Saturday turned out to be really nice with sunshine.
