Thursday, I had us all packed up and ready to go by the time Vince called that he was on his way home. We had intended to be on the road by 4:30, but he didn’t get home until 5 so that put us 30 minutes behind.
We got to Lieber a little after 6…maybe 6:30. Set up the camper and headed back home. I dropped Vince off at home and the kids &I went on to church. Me in a pony tail, t-shirt & nylon sweatpants…boy was I a sight. Lol! Vince & I had the movie night so no one seen me until the service was over. They watched the Trumpeter Swan; I think that was the name of it. It was really good. After church was over, we headed back up. We got there around 11:40! Yikes. The kids were asleep so we put them in bed with their clothes on.
Friday was a nice day. We had chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. William rode his bike with the training wheels off. I was so proud of him! Grace…she got doing down a hill and ran off into a dip. Her bike went one way and she went another. She landed on her butt and then the back of her head hit the asphalt. That was so not good. Carla was in tears. She had just said that it would happen. Accidents happen and I should have had her helmet on her. I think Grace was over it before Carla was.
Brian and the girls were there by around 12:30. They set their tent up behind our camper & where Larry was going to put their camper. Vince & I took the girls and our kids for a bike ride to the playground. That was hairy. William kept riding down into the ditch. The last time, he hit his leg on the handlebar and put a big ‘ol bruise on his thigh. But he didn’t fall the rest of the way! Lol! They played there for close to an hour or so. Vince & I determined that Brian should probably leave the girls with us while he went back and picked up Valerie and the rest of their stuff. One of the twins mentioned it to Brian before we got a chance and he told her no. Then I told him that it was my idea and he said it was ok. None of us saw the point in making them be in the car for another 2 hours when they could just stay with us. They are really good kids and behaved the whole time.
Friday night I HAD to give the kids a bath. I rinsed out the tub in the camper and bathed them in there. After they were settled, I walked up to the bathhouse and took a shower…man it came out so hard…I felt like I had been sandblasted!
It rained some Friday night. I didn’t sleep well. I was worried that Brian, Valerie & the girls were getting wet in the tent. When we got up the next day…they said they were dry. Shew!
Saturday was a pop tart breakfast day. Grace didn’t want pancakes and I didn’t see the point in making them for just William. (Plus we needed them for the big breakfast Valerie & I planned for Monday). The kids rode their bikes a LOT. A bunch of them piled in the back of Brian’s truck and were going down to look at the lake…which was out of it’s banks! We saw a bald eagle while we were down there! The kids and Brian were skipping stones across the water.
When we were coming back from the lake, we found everyone at the activity area playing whiffleball. We stopped there and watched the game…well the kids & I watched the game, the others played. I just don’t care for all that hitting and running. Lol! I did take the kids over to the playground for a while. After the game was over, we all went back to the campground and ate a little bit of lunch. Then went back to the activity area and played some beach volleyball. First we played the kids against the adults. They won. Then we picked teams. My team didn’t win. Vince & I had an issue here…the all of the kids went to the playground with Tiffany, but Vince wouldn’t let William. Oh I was mad. Then when he decided to come around to my way of thinking…William wouldn’t come near us so we could tell him to go over there. When I tried to walk over to him, he ran….not that I blame him. Not long after that, they sent word to bring the rest of the kids back. The parents weren’t paying attention to the game. Lol!
After the volleyball games, we went back and got dinner going. We had a bunch of people there for dinner. It was awesome! We had ribeye, chicken, beans, macaroni & cheese, cottage cheese, bbq smokey links, a conqueso dip, fruit salad and more… talk about scrumptious! After dinner, I gave the kids a bath and got them to bed. They were filthy…again. Lol! That happens when you’re camping. I drove over to the primitive campsites and took a shower there…those were much nicer!
Sunday morning, we all got up at 7. I went out and got Valerie up so she could go get a shower. We all ate poptarts, etc for breakfast again since we needed to be on the road by 8:15…by the time we all got ready (us and the Elkins’) it was 8:30 before we headed out. We made it there in time for William to eat a biscuit before Sunday school started. I ran the computer for the morning service. The message was over I Samuel 16:1. Basically the message was to stop mourning over our problems that God has already provided a solution.
After church, we went to Bethel Baptist’s campground. Vince’s aunt from Tennessee was in and camping there. We ate lunch with them and the kids played on their little plaything. I almost lost my daughter. One of Vince’s cousin’s kids (he’s 4) tried to push her head first off the top of the slide. He quickly learned that I am not someone he can mouth off to like he does his mom. Very quickly. Unfortunately, she then babied him instead of paddling his smart butt behind.
When we left there, we stopped by the house and picked up a few things. I had forgotten my pancake-makin’ griddle so we had to get it. And we got more eggs for our big breakfast on Monday (good thing we did too!). Then we headed back. We got there right before the others were heading back for our pm service. We decided we weren’t going. I’m glad too. I was REALLY tired. We ate dinner with the others who stayed behind and then the kids & I headed to the camper. They weren’t too dirty so I didn’t bath them. We just all went to bed. I was in bed by 9:45. Vince came in about 10:45. I guess the others got back from church at about 11. Shew!
It rained basically all night long. It was horrible! Again, I worried about Brian, Valerie & the girls, but Brian assured me (after we all got up) that they stayed dry. He made sure to tell the girls to not touch the sides of the tent or else they would have gotten wet! Valerie & I made a big breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes & scrambled eggs. Yum!!
Doug, Misty and their girls packed up and went home by I think 11. It was still raining. The rest of us hung around just hoping it would quit. It finally did sometime around noon or after. While it was raining, we started packing stuff up to leave so all we would need to do was hook up, pull up the jacks and pull out. The kids played in the rain and water. Some played with a little chess set (and ruined it because the ‘board’ was actually paper). They also worked on a puzzle. We roasted hot dogs, hamburgers & marshmallows over the fire pit at Larry & Beth’s camper for lunch. Not long after that, Vic & Carla, Randy & Debbie & us pulled out. I told Vince we had to get home and get laundry started! By the time the 3 of us got our tanks drained, Brian & Valerie were behind us.
We got home around 4:30 and I immediately started on laundry. Vince & I also moved all the wood from the basketball court and stacked it to the side. We cleared off all the wood chips, etc and Vince carried them off in a wheelbarrow and dumped them over by the woods. Kenny came up and they cut the basketball goal down. Then we pulled the camper up on the concrete slab and leveled it up. We are going to lengthen the front of the concrete slab and either build something to cover the camper or buy one of those camper/carport things to cover it. We will also have to re-gravel that driveway.
And that was our mini vacation.
