What a week!
Monday:
We got a fairly early start. We were headed to Vincennes by 9:30. I hooked up the portable DVD player for the kids
because I knew it was going to be a long day. We go to Elaine’s Stride Rite on Hart Street. Grace got a pair of Tommy
Hilfiger shoes (on sale) and William got a pair of Stride Rites. I don’t think his were on sale. They only had like 2 pair
that I seen of boy’s shoes that were on sales and they weren’t in his size.
I didn’t even call the dr about William’s bite. It looked a LOT better when I got home Sunday night and looked good this morning as well. I didn’t call about my spider bite either. I did ask a nurse that goes to our church and she said, yes it was a spider bit. I accidentally shaved it Wednesday night. It looked a lot better last night, but today it has a black center again…I’m hoping the nurse will be at Bible Study, so I can ask her.
We pulled into the parking lot of Stride Rite at 10:40. It was supposed to open at 10:30. The owner wasn’t there yet and another family was already waiting at the door. So we opted to go to Wal-Mart and get my non-grocery items, including the rest of William’s school supplies. We spent at least an hour shopping. And we couldn’t BELIEVE the RUDENESS of the people what worked there! Oh My WORD! None of their scanners to check the prices worked. We stopped lady (wearing a CSM smock – stands for Customer Service Manager…) and told her. She looked at us with a smile and said, “I’m on lunch, you’ll have to tell someone else” and walked off. Well, if you’re going to be on lunch, DON’T walk through the store with your work vest on! I said something loud enough for her to hear and decided to continue shopping….I should have just walked out after that…We finish our shopping and like I said, spent an hour there. As we walk up to the checkouts, we found someone who WAS on the clock and told her about the scanner. She looked at my mom and rudely said none of our scanners work. Well then TAKE THEM DOWN! GEEZ. And to top it off, they had EIGHT of the self check-out lines open, 2 10 items or less and ONE lane for everyone else. The self scanning lanes, you can only have 10 items or less. So it took us another 30 minutes to get out the door. NOTE TO EVERYONE – Don’t bother with the Vincennes Wal-Mart!
Ugh. We finally got out of there and went back to the shoe store. I bet we were only there 20 minutes. Grace only tried on the one shoe. William tried on 2 pair and we were out the door. We stopped at McDonald’s to eat. After we ate, we headed to Linton. I can’t remember the road we took, but it went through Bicknell and Sandborn. We went to the Wal-Mart in Linton to get my groceries. I don’t remember how long we spent in there…
We took my mom with us so we dropped her off and headed home. We unloaded the truck and started loading up the camper. We basically had everything, but clothes in there when Vince got home. We pack what all we could think of and then headed to Shakamak State Park. This was the longest drive we’ve ever taken to go camping. Lol! I think it was 3 miles. We set up the camper and put most everything in it’s place and look for what we might have forgotten. I made a mental note of things we needed and then we headed back to the house to get those and the Jeep. Vince still had to work this week. We got back to the camper and Vince started a campfire and we roasted hot dogs and cheese grillers. Then we headed to the shower house and then to bed. I couldn’t sleep so I got back up and got my scrapbooking stuff out…yes I took it with me. I finished a page and laid out 4 more.
Tuesday:
The kids didn’t get me up until about 9:30. That was nice! We are only allowed 1 vehicle at our campsite so we left the
Jeep in the overflow lot. Vince drove the truck out there and hid the keys for me to pick it up later. First thing we did
was ride out bikes out to get the truck. I didn’t want to leave it out there with the keys in it. Then the kids played at
the playground that I intentionally camped beside. The morning was pretty good. Later in the afternoon, a 13 year old
talked William into burying another kid’s (friend of hers) toys in the sand. Then when the kid came back, she blamed the
whole incident on William. It started going downhill from there. The boys (who were probably 13 as well) started picking
on William, but didn’t actually DO anything to him other than make him scared. They knew I was watching them though. And
obviously William didn’t really want to go play there anymore. We took at least 4 bike rides. We spent part of the
afternoon at the house doing laundry. When Vince got home, we went on another bike ride. We fixed sirloin tips, hot dogs,
grillers & corn on the cob for dinner. We took a long walk and then headed over to the new showerhouse in the Maple Grove
area. It was NICE!
Wednesday:
We got up fairly early because I thought I had to take William to register for Kindergarten. Got there and she said I
didn’t have to be there until tomorrow. Then we went on more bike rides. I drove the kids to another playground and let
them play there…because they didn’t want to be around those teenagers! Then around 11ish, the kids talked me into taking
them to the pool. I swore I wasn’t going to pay to go swimming, but I finally gave in. It was so HOT outside. I slathered
them down with sunscreen and off we went. We spent 2 hours at the pool! The kids LOVED the slide. They let Grace go down on
my lap and she really enjoyed it. One time…William fell and wound up going down it face first…you are only supposed to go
feet first. He thought that was fun. Lol! I waited for him at the bottom of the slide so I could grab him each time he went
down and it was a good thing that I did on that one! Lol! Neither of the kids got burnt, but you know me…I didn’t put
sunblock on me and my shoulders got a little burnt. Vince came home from work early so he could spend some time with us. We
took the kids fishing. Grace’s pole caught a few, William caught at least 1 by himself. Grace would hold the pole for a few
seconds, but she really wasn’t interested. She and I walked back early. We wound up going into town and buying some
hamburger. Vince & I really didn’t want more grillers for dinner…especially since I forgot to buy hotdog buns. When we got
back from there, a cold front blew through and we got some rain. I talked the kids into going outside and playing in the
rain for a few minutes. That was fun. William rode his bike through some mud puddles. Then we started making dinner. We
had hot dogs, grillers, hamburgers & chips. We had double-chocolate brownies for dessert. I made a couple of calls trying
to find someone to bring the camper home for me on Thursday. Check out is 2pm and Vince wasn’t going to get home until 5pm.
After that we headed over for showers and then headed to bed.
Thursday:
We got moving around 9. Went & picked up my mom and headed to all the stops we needed to make. First stop was
orientation for Grace’s preschool. Then we headed to Linton to fill up the truck and get some things at Wal-Mart for mom.
Vince called and I picked up a few things for him too. On the drive to the school, I decided I had better call Randy and
give him an idea of when I needed to meet him to bring the camper home. Turns out his wife, Debbie, had had a heart attack
and they were transferring her to Terre Haute so he wouldn’t be able to. I just happened to be in front of our new church
property and stopped and talked to our pastor’s dad. He drives a huge motor home and pulls a trailer with his Camaro in it
so I knew he was capable. And I knew how particular he was with his stuff so I knew he would clean the hoses out like they
need to be. He said he would be able to so I told him to meet me at our house at 1pm.
Left there and went to the school to register William. Got that taken care of and headed to the campsite. I loaded up the bikes, put up the chairs, tv, etc and the awning, grabbed the laundry and headed out. Dropped my mom off at her house and raced home. I pulled in and Larry was already there. He said he had just gotten there. We waited on my mom to get there to watch the kids and then headed back to the campgrounds.
We got it all hooked up and stuff, dumped and got to the house and looked in the bed of the truck. I had put a log in there and thought it wasn’t burning any longer. Well, it was in full flames! YIKES! I ran up to get the garden hose and Larry kicked out of the truck. Guess what. We have a nice little burnt to the metal spot in the bed of the truck now. Larry got the camper backed in and well off the road and left. Told me he would pray for me that Vince wouldn’t kill me. Lol! I told him to pray hard! Let me tell you I was ready to prepare for my funeral! I was certain that Vince would do me in, but Larry must have been praying hard because he wasn’t even mad. I had called him on his drive home so he would have an hour to cool off. He just said oh well, it’s just a truck. Whew! Praise the Lord! After that, a friend of ours came over…there was a problem with Vince’s chainsaw that he borrowed lol! It just wasn’t Vince’s day.
When Vince got home, we backed the camper up onto the concrete slab and leveled it up. I went in and finished getting ready for church. He had a headache so he took a shower and went to bed.
That was our (well me & the kids) mini-vacation! I really like having these 4 days off every week!
