To start the vacation off right, Vince got a speeding ticket on the way home from work. He was in a hurry to get home
to get the camper packed so we could leave almost as soon as I got home from work. What they say about red vehicles and
cops targeting them…it’s true. The white truck in front of Vince was going much faster than him, but Vince
(in our red truck) was the one who got stopped. I got home around 6:30ish night. I helped finish throwing things (almost literally) into the camper and we headed out.
We pulled out of the driveway around 7:30. Vince & the kids were in the truck and I was in the Jeep. I headed over to my
sister’s house to drop a card off for my niece, filled up the Jeep at Casey’s, dropped off my 2 library books, got $ out of
the ATM and got a pop for me & Vince. I pulled into our campsite at about 8:45pm. Shew! It didn’t take long to get the
camper set up and get inside. Good thing too because the mosquitoes were THICK! The fire would not cooperate for us so
I would up fixing hot dogs & grillers in the microwave. (yeah, I really rough it! Lol)
Tuesday:
Vince went to work at Crane. The kids got me up around 8:30. I made them chocolate chip pancakes. Grace might have eaten
1 bite. I don’t know what is up with her but she didn’t eat very well all week. After we ate, we loaded up and headed into
town. We needed marshmallows, etc. I also picked up more kitchen towels, stuffed animals to keep in the camper, etc. After
we got back, we put on our swim suits and headed for the beach! I slathered the sun block on the kids and they headed for
the water. They had a blast. We stayed there around an hour and then headed back to the camper. We had lunch and then went
for a little bike ride. It was Very hilly which made it really hard on me & William. I was pulling Grace in a bike trailer
so all my extra weight plus her & that trailer….we didn’t go bike riding the rest of the week! Lol! We did manage to go
around the cul de sac we were staying at. After that we went for a walk.
Vince got back around 3. We hung out around the camper for about an hour to let him cool off and then we headed back down
to the lake to swim again. We stayed out for about an hour and then headed back to get some dinner. The mosquitoes were
out in full force. You ought to see William’s legs and back. He looks awful! Grace’s right thigh got bit pretty badly and I
have a few spots on my legs as well. Vince roasted us some hot dogs & grillers for dinner. Then I headed to the shower.
Grace was going to go with me, but she was a screaming, crying mess. Missing the afternoon nap will do that to ya. When I
got back, Vince & William headed to the shower. (See why I wanted to close to the shower house?!) When they got back, we
all headed to bed. The kids spent the first night in their bunk beds, but the rest of the week on the couch…maybe I should
have moved the tv into their area.
Wednesday:
Vince got up and went to work at Crane again today. This vacation was more for me & the kids than him…We just wanted to
get some use out of the camper! At the rate we were going, we were only gonna get to go like 4 or 5 times this year. That
just isn’t acceptable! The kids got me up around 8:30 again today. We basically did the same routine as yesterday (minus
the shopping excursion). We spent from 10:30 to 11:30 at the beach then came back for some lunch. We spent most of the
afternoon in the camper. It was REALLY HOT outside. We went outside just before Vince got back. He said the heat index was
at a dangerous level. The news was saying to check on the elderly and if your neighbors dog needed water to go water it! No
wonder I wanted to stay in! After he had been there about an hour we went back to the lake to swim.
We ran into a girl that I knew from high school. I thought I recognized her and then she told someone else her
name…Shawnda. That is a VERY unique name. I just knew it was the girl I knew from high school so I asked her and sure
enough…her last name use to be Bowersock. Small world.
After we were at the lake for about an hour, we headed back for some dinner. I don’t remember when, but the kids & I
DID go back into town. I don’t remember what for other than a few odds & ends at the grocery store…
Tonight, we all headed for the shower house at the same time. I was so proud of Grace. She took her first shower. And
she didn’t scream the whole time! Lol! For those of you who don’t know Grace well…she HATES having water on her face. She
screams at home when I go to wet her hair down to wash it. She’s afraid of getting water in her eyes. I have no idea where
that fear comes from… Anyway, she made it through the shower.
When we got back, the kids laid down on the couch to watch a movie and Vince & I headed to bed.
Thursday:
This is where things got interesting. Vince had to drive to Cayuga today! That is 60 miles from our house and we were at
least 45 miles from our house. Yikes. The kid wound up waking up as he was leaving at 4am. I think they both wound up in
bed with me. If not both, at least William did. (I knew I should have written an update on my laptop!) We got up a little
later today…closer to 9am. Again, we did the same routine of swimming, eating lunch and then keeping cool in the camper.
Since I knew that we would be leaving Friday, I took part of the afternoon to clean up. I swept our rug and folded it up. I
took down all clothes that were on the line, swept out the camper, etc.
Grace actually took a little bit of a nap today. Unfortunately, I thought Vince got off work at 3 and got her up so we
could go call him…he didn’t get off work until 3:30. I could get back ahold of him so we headed back to the camper to get
ready to go swimming again. We finally reached him at almost 5pm when we were headed to the lake. He told me of the weather
we were supposed to be getting…damaging winds & hail. Lovely…and he stayed at our house! The kids & I were alone for the
night. We swam for about an hour and then headed back to the camper. I got our stuff together and we went and took a
shower. We used the handicapped restroom this time so I could keep them contained and keep our clothes from getting wet
(and have a lock on the door). After our shower, I decided that I wanted to go into town & eat. The kids refuse to eat
hamburgers so I needed to save the hot dogs for Friday. I called Vince as we headed out of the cul de sac to make sure he
didn’t care. I didn’t get an answer and assumed he was at church so we went to McDonald’s. We also had some ice cream.
Since the sky was starting to get darker, we headed back to the camper. I stuffed the rug in the bin (was going to leave
that for Vince, but didn’t want it wet) and then I amazed myself by putting the awning up without breaking it. It wasn’t
long after I got in the camper that the wind picked up and it started to rain. It was really freaking me out. All I could
think about was Vince talking about the damaging winds and I had a picture in my mind of the camper tipping over. (What a
thought, huh?) By 9:30 it had stopped and my mind was eased. The kids slept on the couch again so they could watch a movie.
The rain started in again, but I didn’t worry about it this time and went to sleep. I was surprised that neither kid
(especially William) didn’t wind up in bed with me, but they both stayed on the couch.
Friday:
The alarm clocks went of at 3:30 in the morning. I guess they didn’t get the message that Vince was staying at the house
instead of the camper. Lol! I finally got all 3 of them shut off and the kids didn’t even wake up! The kids woke up around
9:15 or so. I finally dragged myself out of bed at 9:45. We didn’t go swimming today. I finished picking up stuff for the
drive home. We did go for a walk while William rode his bike. We swung on the swing set that is at the opening of the cul
de sac. William played baseball with a couple of little boys. I didn’t know the little boy’s mom personally, but have seen
her enough to recognize her. Funny…didn’t even think to get her name. I attempted to watch for Vince, but he somehow
managed to drive right by me without him seeing me or me seeing him. I don’t know how I missed the loud Jeep, but I did. I
looked at the clock on my cell phone and realized it was 1:45 and we headed back to the camper. Grace rode home with Vince
& William rode with me. Vince already had everything pulled up and ready to pull out. The only thing left was the piece of
wood under the one set of tires. He pulled up and then put that up and we headed out. First stop…the dumping station…had to
dump the black & grey water. Then we headed home. We stopped at the light where you turn to go to Bloomfield and filled the
Jeep and again in Linton to deposit Vince's paycheck. We got home between 3:30 & 4pm. We unpacked the camper the best we
could and took showers. My niece came over and visited for a little while and then we headed to Bible Study.
How is that for a vacation? :)
